MENDOCINO COUNTY'S DAY OF THE DEAD FESTIVAL CELEBRATES ITS
SECOND YEAR!
Numerous venues throughout the county are joining
in the festival this year which takes place from October 27
- November 2, 2008. In addition to an encore of last year's
community-created quilts auctioned at the opening reception,
galleries and wineries throughout the county are hosting an
altar trail (see below for how you can participate in these
amazing projects). There will be cooking demonstrations, a
chance to make wearable folk art and a repeat of the very
popular tequila tasting with our own John Sverko.
Be a part of the county-wide festival this year. Join Little
River Inn in creating works of art celebrating Day of the
Dead to benefit Project Sanctuary. Design a 12 x 12 inch fabric
square with a Day of the Dead theme. Be as creative as you
wish. any medium is fine, so long as everything is firmly
attached to the fabric backing. The squares will be quilted
together, so please leave a 1 inch border free of decoration.
Squares must be delivered to Little River Inn by September
1. The finished pieces will be displayed in Abalone Hall
at Little River Inn beginning October 27, at which time bidding
will begin. Final bids will taken October 30 at a Day of the
Dead Fiesta and Auction.
Fabric art not your thing? No problem. We invite you to join
us in creating a county-wide ALTAR TRAIL. Altars will be displayed
at wineries, galleries and restaurants throughout Mendocino
County. A Day of the Dead altar can be as simple or as elaborate
as you want. The purpose of an altar is remembrance; with
that in mind feel free to do what you think your honoree would
enjoy.
The show is not juried and is open to all regardless of age
or calling. The medium you choose for your altar can be as
wide as your imagination. Altars will be sold by silent auction
- 60% of the proceeds go to the artist. If you would prefer
not to have your altar sold, please clearly mark it "NFS"
and we will see that it gets back to you. ALL ALTARS MUST
BE COMPLETED AND DELIVERED TO LITTLE RIVER INN BY OCTOBER
13, 2008 unless you'd prefer to create it on-site.
We hope you'll join us. For more information contact Connie
at Little River Inn: 707-962-2191 or connier@littleriverinn.com.
November
7 through November 16, 2008
Mushroom Festival! Join us as we embrace the edible
funghi at Mendocino County’s Mushroom Festival taking
place November 7-16, 2008. There will be tastings at various
local restaurants as well as mushroom and wine pairings. For
the first time this year there will be a Mushroom Ball, which
will benefit another local treasure, the Mendocino Film Festival.
Many
venues are taking part again this year. Literally “back
by popular demand,” Little River Inn’s offerings
include a repeat of some events we hosted in previous years.
Information on specific events will be available soon.
